Courses include recorded video lectures, auto-graded and peer-reviewed assignments, and community discussion forums. Students can enroll in these courses to expand their knowledge in cybersecurity.

Cyber Aces (SANS)

SANS Cyber Aces Online is an online course that teaches the core concepts needed to assess, and protect information security systems. The course was developed by SANS, the most trusted and the largest source for information security training and security certification in the world. The course is an engaging, self-paced, easy to use combination of tutorials, videos, and quizzes. It’s available as open courseware so you can take it anytime. SANS is donating the course from their library of professional development curriculum.

Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3)

DC3’s mission is to deliver superior digital forensics and multimedia lab services, cyber technical training, research, development, testing and evaluation, and cyber analysis capabilities supporting cyber counterintelligence and counterterrorism, criminal investigations, intrusion forensics, law enforcement, intelligence community, critical infrastructure partners, and information operations for the Department of Defense. DC3 offers the Defense Cyber Investigations Training Academy (DCITA), providing classroom and web-based cyber investigative and incident response training to Department of Defense agencies to protect information systems from unauthorized use, and criminal, fraudulent, and foreign intelligence activities.

FBI Cyber Shield Alliance

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Cyber Shield Alliance provides extensive resources for state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) law enforcement partners via the Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal to access eGuardian as a way to report cyber incidents, to share intelligence, and to access federally sponsored training. SLTT partners are encouraged to participate in the FBI Cyber Task Forces in their areas. Personnel will work with FBI agents and analysts on cases and receive access to the Bureau’s training curriculum through the Virtual Academy platform. The Virtual Academy contains an Introductory Class Suite (recommended below) as well as a Hardware and Software Suite, a Networking Suite, a Security Suite, and an Enhanced Security Suite, which may prove useful to FLOs, depending on their specific area of responsibility (AOR) roles and responsibilities. Law enforcement personnel can sign up for the Cyber Shield Alliance through the FBI’s Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP) at https://www.cjis.gov. LEEP was formerly known as the Law Enforcement Online (LEO) portal. Once you are on LEEP, find the Virtual Academy Special Interest Group (SIG) and begin searching the course catalog for classes and topics of interest.

FBI Virtual Academy (FBIVA)

A structured, efficient, electronically delivered system of learning that adds value to the forensic science, law enforcement, and judicial communities by providing a single, comprehensive learning solution that offers a web-based means of accessing and acquiring the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies (through relevant and consistent training and materials) needed to support the worldwide criminal justice community.

FEMA Emergency Management Institute

This course is to increase Federal Department and Agencies, State, territorial, tribal and local jurisdictional continuity of operations awareness and discuss how to execute continuity operations during a cyber security event.

Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC)

FLETC provides standardized training for federal law enforcement officers and agents. Classes may be taken online or onsite in Georgia, or exported by mutual agreement. Some current class options include basic incident response to digital evidence, computer network investigations, covert electronic surveillance, covert electronic tracking, internet investigations, digital evidence analysis, Macintosh forensics, mobile device investigations, seized computer evidence recovery, and Wi-Fi Tools for Analysis and Geolocating.

Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE) - Live

FedVTE Live! is an instructor-led, virtual training program designed to improve the cybersecurity skills of the Federal IT workforce while promoting collaboration between agencies. Through half-day and full-day classes on a wide range of cybersecurity topics, FedVTE Live! provides hands-on experience, knowledge of best practices, and network opportunities. Events are scheduled throughout the year, typically one or two each month, and are offered at no cost per seat to the student’s agency. Training courses are live, real-time, and instructor-led using a virtual classroom. Through FedVTE Live! DHS also offers the Federal Executive Cybersecurity Seminar (FECS) at no cost to government executives. Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE) - Self-paced

Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE) is an free online, on-demand cybersecurity training system that is available at no charge to for government personnel and veterans. Managed by DHS, FedVTE contains more than 800 hours of training on topics such as ethical hacking and surveillance, risk management, and malware analysis. Course proficiency ranges from beginner to advanced levels. Several courses align with a variety of IT certifications such as Network +, Security +, and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT)

Geared specifically for cybersecurity professionals working at critical infrastructure organizations, this particular training curriculum is focused on cybersecurity for controls systems but it starts at a fundamental level that should help infosec professionals improve their overall skills.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Open Courseware

MIT Open Courseware makes many MIT courses available and free via the internet. The same Network and Computer Security course required for MIT’s aspiring computer scientist is available to you for free!

National Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJTC)

The NCJTC boasts more than 300 experienced criminal justice practitioners as well as the resources developed over a 20-year history of providing training and technical assistance to every state and U.S. territory. NCJTC offers a wide range of training and technical assistance programs that can be adapted and tailored to meet specific needs. Training is available online, in-house at your facility, or in one of NCJTC’s many training facilities.

National Institute of Health Information Security and Information Management Training

The National Institutes of Health offers mini training courses on information security, privacy and security awareness. All courses take less than one hour to complete.

National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C)

NW3C provides a nationwide support system for law enforcement and regulatory agencies involved in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime. Training options include instruction in all areas of economic and cyber crime investigation and prosecution. Online training is available and Instructor-Led classes are taught at regional training facilities.

NICCS Education and Training Catalog

The NICCS Education and Training Catalog is a central location where cybersecurity professionals across the nation can find over 3,000 cybersecurity-related courses. Anyone can use the interactive map and filters to search for courses offered in their local area so they can add to their skill set, increase their level of expertise, earn a certification, or even transition into a new career. Courses are offered include Online Instructor-Led, Online Self-Paced, and Classroom Instructor-Led.

Offensive Security

The Metasploit Unleashed (MSFU) course is provided free of charge by Offensive Security. This course is a perfect starting point for Information Security Professionals who want to learn penetration testing and ethical hacking, but are not yet ready to commit to a paid course. The course will teach you how to use Metasploit, in a structured and intuitive manner. Additionally, this free online ethical hacking course makes a wonderful quick reference for penetration testers, red teams, and other security professionals.

SEARCH

For over 40 years SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, has provided training to local, state, tribal and federal justice and public safety agencies nationwide. While many of the products and services are provided at little or no cost under grant opportunities, SEARCH also offers the option to contract for training tailored to one’s needs. SEARCH provides several computer-related online training courses for law enforcement personnel investigating crimes with a possible cyber link, such as gangs, homicide, vice, property crimes, narcotics, or high-tech crime. In order to access the SEARCH no-cost federally funded courses, users must request access to the online learning portal.

SecurityTube

SecurityTube hosts thousands of videos that teach everything from Wifi Security to Network Pentesting. There are training videos for programmers, network engineers and system engineers; both expert and beginner. SecurityTube also offers certifications in several areas of security expertise.

Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX)

No country, industry, community or individual is immune to cyber risks. As a founding member of the National Cybersecurity Preparedness Consortium, TEEX offers a wide range of online cybersecurity training opportunities. For those new to cybersecurity, non-technical introductory courses create basic awareness and explore cybersecurity in a community context by building basic terminology and identifying fundamental cyber threats, vulnerabilities and countermeasures. The web-based courses are designed to ensure that the privacy, reliability, and integrity of the information systems that power the global economy remain intact and secure. The web-based courses are offered through three discipline-specific tracks: general, non-technical computer users; technical IT professionals; and business managers and professionals.

US Department of State

The Cybersecurity Online Learning program supplements mandatory FISMA security role-based training by offering new, up-to-date workshops on computer security topics every month. Both live and recorded workshops are available to domestic and overseas Department of State security personnel, as well as security professionals from other federal, state, and local government entities.

WiredSafety

WiredSafety is the largest and oldest online safety, education, and help group in the world. Originating in 1995 as a group of volunteers rating websites, it now provides one-to-one help, extensive information, and education to cyberspace users of all ages on a myriad of Internet and interactive technology safety, privacy and security issues. These services are offered through a worldwide organization comprised entirely of unpaid volunteers who administer specialized websites, resources and programs.
